Dell has unveiled two new workstation-grade laptops

Dell has officially raised the bar for mobile productivity, unveiling its latest enterprise-focused machines designed to handle intensive computational tasks. The new Dell Pro Precision 5 Series 14 and Pro Precision 5 Series 16 laptops are here, and they represent a significant leap forward in processing power and graphical capabilities. Built for professionals who need desktop-level performance on the go, these workstations are among the first to feature Intel’s brand-new Panther Lake processors alongside Nvidia’s cutting-edge RTX Pro Blackwell graphics.

While they sit slightly below the ultra-premium Precision 7 Series in the pecking order, the new 5 Series models promise a potent blend of power and portability for engineers, data scientists, and creative professionals.

Under the Hood: Panther Lake and Blackwell Take Center Stage

The headline feature of the new Precision lineup is the adoption of Intel's next-generation architecture. Dell is equipping these laptops with a range of Intel Core Ultra 5, 7, and 9 processors from the Panther Lake family.

Buyers configuring the Dell Pro Precision 5 Series 14 can choose between the top-tier Core Ultra 9 386H, the mid-range Core Ultra 7 366H, or the efficient Core Ultra 5 336H. These CPUs are designed to handle multi-threaded workloads, from complex code compilation to 3D rendering, with remarkable efficiency.

On the graphics side, Dell is leveraging the power of the Nvidia RTX Pro Blackwell platform. For users who need dedicated graphics muscle, the 14-inch model offers the option of the RTX Pro 500 Blackwell GPU featuring 6GB of VRAM. Those with lighter graphical needs can rely on the integrated Intel Arc graphics.

The larger Dell Pro Precision 5 Series 16, however, is the true powerhouse for visualization. It offers a broader selection of dGPUs, giving users the flexibility to upgrade to the RTX Pro Blackwell 1000 (8 GB) or the RTX Pro Blackwell 2000 (8 GB) . This makes the 16-inch variant the obvious choice for professionals working with high-resolution video, complex simulations, or real-time ray tracing.

Display and Experience: Size Matters

Beyond the internal components, the most significant differentiator between the two models is the screen real estate and quality. Both laptops move away from the premium tandem OLED technology reserved for the higher-tier Precision 7 series, opting instead for high-quality IPS LCD panels.

  • Dell Pro Precision 5 Series 14: Features a 14-inch display. Users can select a base FHD+ (1920 x 1200) panel with a 60Hz refresh rate and 400 nits brightness, available in both touch and non-touch versions. For sharper visuals, a QHD+ (2560 x 1600) option is available, though it caps the refresh rate at 90Hz.
  • Dell Pro Precision 5 Series 16: The 16-inch model offers the same FHD+ base option but provides a smoother experience for those opting for the higher resolution. Its QHD+ (2560 x 1600) panel boasts a fluid 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smoother scrolling and visual fidelity. Both QHD+ variants cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut, peaking at 400 nits, ensuring color-accurate work.

Memory, Storage, and Connectivity

Despite being the "mid-range" professional options, the Precision 5 Series doesn't skimp on specs. Both laptops support the latest LPCAMM LPDDR5x-8533 memory, configurable up to a massive 64GB. Storage is handled by speedy M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs, with support for up to 2TB, ensuring fast boot times and quick access to large project files.

Connectivity is a strong suit, with a robust port selection that caters to the professional environment. Users will find:

  • Two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports for high-speed data transfer and docking.
  • Two 5Gbps USB-A ports for legacy peripherals.
  • A full-sized HDMI 2.1 port for external displays.
  • A 3.5mm audio combo jack.
  • An RJ45 Ethernet jack for reliable wired networking.

Wireless connectivity is future-proofed with support for Wi-Fi 7 and the latest Bluetooth 6.0.

Power and Availability

Battery life varies depending on the chassis size. The portable Precision 5 Series 14 is equipped with a 72 Wh battery. The larger Precision 5 Series 16 offers a choice between a 64 Wh and a larger 96 Wh cell, allowing users to prioritize weight savings or maximum runtime.

Dell has confirmed that the Pro Precision 5 Series 14 and Pro Precision 5 Series 16 will be available for purchase starting in May 2026. As the release date approaches, expect pricing and detailed configuration options to appear on Dell's enterprise portals. For professionals seeking a future-proofed mobile workstation that balances cutting-edge performance with professional-grade durability, the new Precision lineup is shaping up to be a compelling contender.
