| Paired with the Pro Keyboard, the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra strongly resembles a conventional laptop. |
In a bold move that blurs the line between mobile and desktop computing, Samsung is gearing up to release what might be the most overpowered tablet of the year. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra isn't just getting a spec bump; it’s evolving into a genuine laptop replacement.
Featuring a colossal 14.6-inch AMOLED display and powered by the unreleased MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset, the new Tab S11 Ultra boasts hardware that puts many traditional laptops to shame. But hardware alone doesn't make a productivity machine—which is why Samsung is simultaneously launching a completely redesigned accessory: the Samsung Pro Keyboard.
A Cover That Works Like a Laptop
Previous keyboard covers for high-end tablets often felt like compromises—flimsy, awkward to balance on a lap, and reliant on finicky Bluetooth connections. Samsung is addressing these pain points head-on with the new Pro Keyboard, effectively transforming the Android slate into a clamshell device.
With the keyboard attached via a smart magnetic connection, the tablet can actually fold closed, allowing you to carry it under your arm just like a traditional Ultrabook. The reinforced hinge mechanism is designed to hold the heavy 14.6-inch display at a comfortable viewing angle, providing the stability needed for serious typing sessions on a desk or, crucially, on your actual lap.
One of the most practical upgrades is the connection method. Instead of draining the keyboard's battery or relying on Bluetooth pairing, data and power are delivered through metal pins on the back of the tablet. This means you never have to charge the keyboard separately—it draws power directly from the tablet itself.

Bigger Trackpad, Smarter Keys
Samsung has clearly been listening to feedback from power users. The new Pro Keyboard features a multitouch trackpad that is 14.6% larger than the one found on the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra’s Keyboard Book Cover. This extra real estate makes navigating the Android interface and desktop modes far less cramped.
The function row has also been upgraded to boost productivity:
- Dedicated DeX Button: Instantly switch to Samsung’s desktop environment, DeX, which allows for resizable windows and a multitasking experience that closely mirrors Microsoft Windows.
- Customizable Shortcuts: The F1, F2, and F3 keys can be mapped to launch user-specified applications, streamlining your workflow.
- AI Button: Reflecting the current tech zeitgeist, a specific AI key provides instant access to your preferred AI chatbot, keeping AI assistance just a tap away.
The Trade-Off: Added Weight
Of course, transforming a tablet into a laptop comes with a physical cost. The Samsung Pro Keyboard adds approximately 636 grams (1.4 lbs) to the setup. When combined with the tablet, the total weight of the combo reaches 1.33 kg (2.9 lbs) .
Interestingly, this makes the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra with the keyboard attached heavier than many 14-inch laptops currently on the market, including some of Samsung's own Galaxy Books. Users will have to decide if the versatility of a detachable touchscreen is worth the extra heft compared to a traditional clamshell device.
Price and Availability
For now, Samsung has only released pricing details for its home market. The Samsung Pro Keyboard is available for pre-order in South Korea at a price of ₩495,000 (roughly $336 USD) .
Samsung has yet to announce a specific timeline for a global rollout, but if the keyboard is this refined for the Korean launch, it is likely only a matter of time before international markets get a chance to ditch their laptops for this powerful Android alternative.
