The H3C MegaBook 2 supports MegaOS and Windows 11.

The race to build the ultimate Windows 2-in-1 is heating up, and Chinese tech giant H3C is throwing its hat firmly into the ring. After a series of leaks and a recent appearance on the Geekbench benchmarking platform, H3C has finally pulled the wraps off its latest detachable laptop: the H3C MegaBook 2.

Positioned as a direct competitor to devices like the Microsoft Surface Pro (currently going for $1,098 on Amazon), the new MegaBook 2 aims to blend premium portability with next-generation processing power. While earlier rumors pointed toward a new Intel Panther Lake chip, H3C has now confirmed the full hardware specifications—and given us our first official look at the sleek new design.

A Familiar Form Factor with a Unique Display Twist

At first glance, the MegaBook 2 follows the classic template of a Windows detachable. It features a large tablet portion that magnetically attaches to a keyboard cover, transforming from a creative slate into a productivity laptop in seconds.

However, H3C is making a distinct choice with its display that sets it apart from the Redmond giant. While the Surface Pro line is famous for its 3:2 aspect ratio (great for document scrolling), the MegaBook 2 opts for a 16:10 aspect ratio. This wider format is often preferred by media consumers and multitaskers who want a bit more horizontal screen real estate.

The specs on that screen are impressive:

  • Size: 14-inches

  • Resolution: 2.8K

  • Panel Type: OLED

  • Refresh Rate: 120 Hz (for buttery smooth scrolling)

  • Brightness: 1,000 nits peak brightness

That 1,000-nit peak brightness is a significant upgrade from the previous model, ensuring excellent visibility outdoors or in brightly lit environments, and making HDR content truly pop.

Under the Hood: Intel’s New Panther Lake Chip Revealed

The beating heart of the new MegaBook 2 is what tech enthusiasts have been waiting for. Confirming the Geekbench leak from earlier this month, H3C has equipped the device with a brand-new Intel processor from the upcoming Panther Lake series.

Specifically, the launch configuration will feature the Core Ultra 5 325.

This isn't just a simple rebrand. The Core Ultra 5 325 is an 8-core processor with a unique hybrid architecture:

  • 4 Cougar Cove P-cores: These performance cores are clocked up to 4.5 GHz, designed to handle heavy lifting like video editing or coding.

  • 4 Darkmont LP E-cores: These low-power efficiency cores run at 3.4 GHz and are meant to handle background tasks seamlessly.

On the graphics side, the chip includes a 4-core Xe3 iGPU. It’s worth noting that while this下一代 integrated graphics is efficient, it falls just short of the Arc 130V graphics that powered the original MegaBook. Hardcore gamers might want to temper expectations, but for photo editing and light creative work, it should be more than capable.

Based on initial testing of the similar (but higher-tier) Core Ultra 7 355, we anticipate that the Ultra 5 325 will offer modest year-over-year performance gains. However, the real benefit here appears to be power efficiency. The new architecture should allow the MegaBook 2 to sip power more effectively than its predecessor—which is good, because H3C had to make a tough call in the battery department.

The Battery Trade-Off

In what might be the most controversial change, H3C has shrunk the battery. The new MegaBook 2 packs a 50 Wh battery, which is 15% smaller than the cell found in the original MegaBook.

This is likely a direct result of the weight savings. The tablet portion of the MegaBook 2 weighs just 925 grams. While that doesn't include the detachable keyboard, it makes the device incredibly light to hold in hand for reading or note-taking.

The big question is whether the increased efficiency of the Core Ultra 5 325 will offset the smaller battery capacity. We’ll have to wait for full review units to see if battery life remains stable, improves, or takes a hit.

Pricing and Availability

H3C has confirmed that the MegaBook 2 will come in two memory variants: 16 GB or 32 GB of LPDDR5x RAM, paired with the Core Ultra 5 325.

Sales are scheduled to kick off in China on April 11. Unfortunately for international fans, H3C has not yet confirmed pricing details or global availability. Given that the original MegaBook was primarily a China-exclusive device, it remains to be seen if this new model will make its way to Western markets.
