| Lenovo's latest 15.3-inch laptop lacks a built-in number pad. |
Last month, Lenovo kept the tech world busy with a flurry of new IdeaPad releases. From powerful configurations sporting 105 W dedicated GPUs to the latest AMD Gorgon Point and Intel Panther Lake processors, it seemed like the company had covered all its bases for the back-to-school season.
But as a new month begins, Lenovo is proving it isn’t done refreshing its popular consumer lineup. In a move that signals a significant shift toward ARM-based computing, the company has unveiled its first laptop featuring Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon X2 series processors. The new IdeaPad Slim 5x (15Q8Y11) is here, and it’s exclusively powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus chipset.
A New Contender in the Slim Series
For those keeping track, Lenovo introduced the IdeaPad Slim 5x (14Q8X9) back in late 2024. That model utilized the first-generation Snapdragon X chips—specifically the X1-26-100 or X1P-42-100. While that device was a solid entry into the AI PC era, the new IdeaPad Slim 5x (15Q8Y11) is stepping things up significantly by skipping the entry-level tier and going straight for the "Plus" variant.

Under the Hood: The Snapdragon X2 Plus X2P-42-100
The headline feature here is the silicon. While the previous model offered a choice between the base Snapdragon X and X Plus, the new 15-inch model comes exclusively with the Snapdragon X2 Plus X2P-42-100.
This is a 3nm chipset with a thermal design power (TDP) of just 22 W, which hints at the excellent battery life we’ve come to expect from ARM-based Windows laptops. It houses 6 Oryon Gen 3 Prime cores, all clocked at a steady 4 GHz.
Paired with the processor, Lenovo is offering the laptop with either 16 GB or 32 GB of LPDDR5X-9523 RAM. That high-speed memory is crucial for the integrated Adreno GPU and the dedicated Hexagon NPU (Neural Processing Unit), which handles the AI workloads for Windows Studio Effects and other Copilot+ features.
Storage is handled by an M.2 2242 SSD, keeping the chassis slim and lightweight.
Two Stunning Display Options
One of the most critical choices buyers will face is the display. Lenovo is offering two distinct 15.3-inch panel options for the Slim 5x, catering to both productivity users and media consumers.
- IPS Panel (The Productivity Pro): If you work in bright environments or prefer a matte finish, the IPS option offers a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate, and 400 nits of brightness. It covers 100% sRGB and features an anti-glare coating. Notably, this variant comes with a touchscreen.
- OLED Panel (The Media Enthusiast): For those who prioritize deep blacks and vibrant colors for streaming or creative work, the OLED option is the way to go. It boasts a sharper 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, a blazing-fast 165 Hz refresh rate, and 500 nits of brightness. With 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and a glossy finish, it’s designed to make HDR content pop. However, this variant does not include touch functionality.
Battery Life That Goes the Distance
Given the efficiency of the Snapdragon X2 chip, Lenovo is making some bold claims about battery life. The laptop ships with either a 54.7 Wh or a 70 Wh battery.
According to Lenovo’s internal testing, the larger battery configuration is rated for over 24 hours of local 1080p video playback at 150 nits. If you opt for the OLED screen? Lenovo claims the machine can push past 30 hours under the same testing conditions. If real-world usage comes close to these figures, this could easily become one of the longest-lasting laptops in the 15-inch category.
Pricing and Availability
The IdeaPad Slim 5x (15Q8Y11) is now live on Lenovo’s storefronts in North America, though availability for other global markets has yet to be announced.
In the United States, the laptop starts at a very competitive $849.99. If you max out the configuration with 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, the 70 Wh battery, and the stunning 1600p OLED display, the price tops out at $1,329.
In Canada, pricing begins at CAD 1,179.99, scaling up to CAD 1,839 for the fully loaded OLED model.
For those looking to purchase through third-party retailers, you can also find configurations of the previous generation IdeaPad Slim 5x (14Q8X9) available now on Amazon:
Why It Matters
With this release, Lenovo is clearly signaling that the "Snapdragon X2" era is officially beginning. By integrating the new X2P-42-100 into the popular IdeaPad Slim line, they are bringing cutting-edge AI capabilities, incredible battery efficiency, and high-performance CPU cores to a price point that is accessible to students and mainstream professionals.
If the battery life claims hold up in real-world testing and the emulation for legacy x86 apps continues to improve, the IdeaPad Slim 5x (15Q8Y11) might just be the perfect balance of portability, power, and longevity for 2025.
