| The ThinkPad X9 15P Aura Edition weighs just 1.5 kg despite its 88 Wh battery. |
After months of anticipation, Lenovo has finally unleashed the ThinkPad X9 15P Aura Edition onto the global market. First unveiled back in January during CES 2026, this sleek 15-inch powerhouse is now ready to ship across North America, Europe, Australia, and the UK. Depending on where you live, you might also see it labeled as the ThinkPad X9-15p Gen 1 Aura Edition or simply the ThinkPad X9-15p Gen 1 – but no matter the name, it’s making waves for both its impressive specs and one very controversial omission.
Let’s cut to the chase: the X9 15P effectively replaces the older ThinkPad X9 15 Aura Edition (which you can still find on Amazon for around $1,588 if you’re looking for a deal on the previous generation). But this new model isn’t just a spec bump – it’s a complete rethinking of what a ThinkPad can be.
Under the Hood: Panther Lake Power
For now, Lenovo is launching the ThinkPad X9 15P Aura Edition with a single processor option: the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H. This 16-core chip belongs to Intel’s fresh Panther Lake family, and while it’s technically the slowest of the Core Ultra X series that Intel has launched to date, don’t let that fool you. The 358H still packs a serious punch, and early testing shows its integrated Arc B390 graphics – with 12 Xe3 GPU cores – handles both creative workloads and light gaming with surprising grace.
Lenovo’s PSREF database hints that more powerful variants are on the way. Eventually, you’ll be able to configure this laptop with Core Ultra 5 338H, Core Ultra X7 368H, and even the top-tier Core Ultra X9 388H processors. So if you’re a power user who needs every last drop of performance, it might be worth waiting a few months. But for most professionals, the current Core Ultra X7 358H is already a beast.
No TrackPoint? Gasp!
Here’s where traditional ThinkPad fans might clutch their pearls: the ThinkPad X9 15P Aura Edition lacks the iconic red TrackPoint pointing stick. That’s right – the little nubbin that’s lived between the G, H, and B keys since the early ’90s is gone. Lenovo seems to be betting that modern users prefer the larger, click-free glass touchpad (which is excellent, by the way) over the divisive pointing stick. Whether this is a brave evolution or a tragic betrayal depends entirely on your nostalgia level. Either way, the X9 15P is the clearest signal yet that Lenovo is willing to shake up the ThinkPad formula.
Display and Memory: OLED Heaven
What you won’t complain about is the screen. Lenovo is offering two variants of a 15.3-inch OLED panel, both with sharp 2.8K resolution (2880 x 1800). The difference? One supports touch input, the other doesn’t. Both panels cover 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space – a dream for photo and video editors – and feature a 30-120 Hz variable refresh rate (VRR) for buttery smooth scrolling and adaptive power savings. Brightness is equally impressive: 500 nits in SDR mode peaks at a blazing 1,100 nits in HDR, making this laptop perfectly usable even under harsh sunlight.
Under the hood, Lenovo pairs the processor with LPDDR5X-9600 RAM – that’s some seriously fast memory – and a generous 88 Wh battery that should easily get you through a full workday and then some.
Pricing and Availability: Not Cheap, But You Get What You Pay For
Lenovo is currently offering a single configuration across North America. In the US, you’ll pay $2,899; in Canada, it’s CAD 4,029. That price gets you 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, and the touchscreen OLED display.
If you venture beyond North America, Lenovo offers a bit more flexibility. For example, in the UK you’ll shell out £3,020, while Australian customers are looking at AUD 3,582. In the Eurozone, prices range from €2,862 to €3,549 depending on the country and configuration. Some regions also allow you to spec up to 64 GB of RAM and opt for the non-touch display to save a little cash.
The Verdict (So Far)
The ThinkPad X9 15P Aura Edition is a bold, beautiful, and expensive machine that’s clearly targeting creative pros and business users who want a premium 15-inch laptop without carrying a workstation brick. The missing TrackPoint will upset purists, but the stunning OLED display, next-gen Intel graphics, and all-day battery life make a strong case for Lenovo’s new direction.
For now, you can order directly from Lenovo’s regional websites. Check availability and full specs here:
If you’re still on the fence, the previous-gen ThinkPad X9 15 Aura Edition remains a solid value at its current Amazon price – but for early adopters who want the latest and greatest, the X9 15P is ready and waiting.
