The ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 11 arrives with its first meaningful design overhaul in two years, blending subtle aesthetic tweaks with a functional shift that will immediately catch the eye of anyone who regularly reaches for a stylus. The biggest talking point? A dedicated magnetic recess along the bottom front edge, built to store and wirelessly charge the optional Slim Pen 2.
It’s the sort of change that sounds minor on paper but transforms the daily experience of carrying a pen-equipped laptop. Lenovo’s pen ecosystem has long been a maze of overlapping models, and the addition of yet another device-specific stylus only deepens the headache for IT departments and users who simply want a replacement that works across multiple machines. Is any of this a deal-breaker? Hardly. But the shift does serve as a reminder that design evolution often comes with small sacrifices. If you rely on a stylus throughout your workday — and especially if you’ve built muscle memory around a particular pen shape — it’s worth tracking down a display unit and seeing how the new recess and the Slim Pen 2 feel in your hand before you commit.
