Asus ProArt P16 RTX Spark Review: So Expensive, But Pretty Awesome

Asus ProArt P16 H7607

The laptop world just got its first real taste of Nvidia's next-generation silicon, and it's wrapped inside one of the most impressively engineered chassis we've seen from Asus to date. The new ProArt P16 is not just another iterative update—it's a bold statement about where premium Windows laptops are headed.

Powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark N1X SoC, this machine represents one of the first commercially available devices to feature the highly anticipated processor. And after spending time with the high-end configuration, it's clear that Asus has created something genuinely special—even if it comes with a price tag that will make most buyers wince.

Design That Defies Expectations

When you hear "16-inch laptop with desktop-class performance," you typically brace yourself for something hefty. The ProArt P16 shatters that expectation. At under 1.8 kg and just 13mm thick, it's more than 300 grams lighter than Apple's MacBook Pro 16. The all-metal chassis exhibits zero flex, and the hinge feels perfectly calibrated for daily use.

The keyboard is excellent—comfortable, quiet, and responsive—while the massive haptic trackpad has become a genuine joy to use. Asus did remove the DialPad from previous models, which might disappoint some longtime users, but the trade-off feels worthwhile given the expanded trackpad real estate.

Connectivity is equally impressive, featuring three USB-C ports (USB4), a USB-A port, HDMI 2.1, an SD-Express 7.0 card reader, and Wi-Fi 7 support. The only real letdown in the hardware department? A 1080p webcam that feels out of place on a $7,000 machine. At this price point, a 1440p or 5MP sensor should be standard.

The Display Steals the Show

Asus has equipped the ProArt P16 with a 4K Tandem OLED panel running at 120Hz, and it's simply one of the best displays available on any laptop today. We measured over 700 nits in SDR mode and a blistering 1,644 nits in HDR, with full DCI-P3 coverage that makes it ideal for color-critical work.

Perhaps most importantly, Asus has addressed the OLED flicker concerns that have plagued some users. The PWM frequency has been pushed to 960Hz, significantly improving eye comfort during extended use. Whether you're editing HDR video or simply streaming content, the visual experience is nothing short of stunning.

The only minor complaint is the touchscreen layer, which introduces a slight graininess on bright white backgrounds. From a normal viewing distance, however, this is essentially unnoticeable.

Performance That Justifies the Hype

The RTX Spark N1X is a 20-core ARM CPU paired with a 6144-core Blackwell GPU, all sharing a unified pool of LPDDR5x memory—in this case, a massive 128GB. The unified memory architecture allows up to 64GB to be allocated as VRAM, enabling workflows that would choke standard consumer laptops, from running massive AI models locally to handling 8K video timelines without breaking a sweat.

In CPU tasks, the ProArt P16 outperforms Intel's Core Ultra 9 285H and AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Apple's M5 Pro and Max chips still hold an edge in raw rendering performance, but the gap has narrowed considerably.

GPU performance lands roughly on par with an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU—and crucially, unlike most Windows laptops that throttle when unplugged, the ProArt P16 delivers nearly identical performance on battery power.

The ARM Caveat

This is a Windows on ARM device, and while most applications run smoothly, we did encounter compatibility issues with certain games, including Battlefield 6 and F1 25, which refused to launch. If you're considering this machine, definitely verify that your essential software is ARM-compatible before committing.

Battery Life: The Expected Compromise

The 99.9 Wh battery is substantial, but the 4K OLED display and powerful SoC are demanding. In mixed-use testing, we managed around 5 to 6 hours, falling short of the 10-hour mark in Wi-Fi testing. It's the price you pay for that gorgeous display, and for a desktop replacement, it's an acceptable trade-off.

Cooling performance deserves praise—even under full load, the fans remain relatively quiet at around 44-50 dB, and the keyboard never becomes uncomfortably warm.

The Verdict: Expensive, But Awesome

At $6,999 for the 128GB configuration, the Asus ProArt P16 is undeniably expensive. But for content creators running local AI workloads, editing 8K video, and needing genuine portability, there's currently nothing else quite like it on the market.

Pros:

  • Stunning, ultra-light chassis
  • Incredible 4K Tandem OLED display
  • Blistering performance from the RTX Spark N1X
  • Full performance on battery power
  • Excellent port selection

Cons:

  • Very expensive
  • Average 1080p webcam
  • ARM compatibility issues with some legacy apps and games
  • Soldered RAM (no future upgrades)

If you fit the target audience and can stomach the price, the ProArt P16 is an easy recommendation. For everyone else, it's a fascinating glimpse at the future of portable computing.
