In the ever-evolving world of gaming laptops, Asus has consistently delivered top-tier devices that cater to the most demanding enthusiasts. The latest addition to their premium ROG lineup, the Strix SCAR 18 G835LXG, represents a significant leap forward in mobile computing power. With its powerhouse combination of Intel's latest processor and NVIDIA's flagship GPU, this machine is designed to handle anything you throw at it—from the most graphically intensive AAA games to complex AI workloads and content creation tasks.
Performance That Sets a New Standard
At the heart of the ROG Strix SCAR 18 lies the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX, a processor that delivers exceptional performance across both gaming and productivity applications. When paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, which boasts a TGP of up to 175 watts, the system achieves performance metrics that were previously unimaginable in a portable form factor.
The generous allocation of 24 GB of GDDR7 video memory ensures that even the most demanding titles can be played at maximum settings without compromising on performance. This makes the SCAR 18 particularly well-suited for:
- 4K gaming at ultra settings with consistent high frame rates
- Ray tracing and advanced graphics effects without performance penalties
- AI-powered applications leveraging NVIDIA's Tensor Cores
- Video editing and 3D rendering with accelerated workflows
- Machine learning tasks that benefit from extensive VRAM

Next-Gen Gaming Technologies
The GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU leverages the latest advancements from NVIDIA, including DLSS 4 and Multi-Frame Generation technologies. These innovations allow the SCAR 18 to achieve dramatically higher frame rates without sacrificing image quality—a crucial feature for competitive gamers and those who demand the best visual experience.
The synergy between the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX and the RTX 5090 ensures that even CPU-intensive titles run smoothly without bottlenecks. The system's thermal management is equally impressive, maintaining consistent performance levels even during extended gaming sessions.
Display Excellence: The 18-Inch Mini-LED Marvel
Perhaps the most striking feature of the ROG Strix SCAR 18 is its magnificent 18-inch Mini-LED display. With a resolution of 3,840 x 2,400 pixels, 2,000 dimming zones, and a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz, this panel delivers an exceptional viewing experience.
The display's HDR capabilities are particularly noteworthy, offering vibrant colors and excellent contrast that bring games to life. The high resolution provides crystal-clear detail, making it ideal for both gaming and creative work.
It's worth noting that to achieve the maximum 240 Hz refresh rate, you'll need to enable GPU Ultimate Mode in the Armoury Crate software. In other graphics modes, the display operates at a still-impressive 120 Hz.
Premium Build and Design
Asus has maintained its reputation for quality construction with the ROG Strix SCAR 18. The chassis exudes premium feel, with attention to detail evident in every aspect of the design. Key features include:
- Easy access to internal components for straightforward SSD upgrades and maintenance
- Two Thunderbolt 5 ports for high-speed connectivity and external display support
- Comfortable keyboard with responsive feedback for extended gaming sessions
- Extensive RGB lighting including the distinctive AniME Vision display on the lid
- Generous storage and memory with 128 GB RAM and 8 TB SSD storage in the test configuration
The Price of Ultimate Performance
While the ROG Strix SCAR 18 G835LXG offers unparalleled performance, it comes with certain compromises. The powerful hardware generates significant heat under heavy gaming loads, resulting in clearly audible fan noise. Power consumption is correspondingly high, which is expected given the components involved.
Some potential buyers may also note that Asus has not included a PCIe 5.0 slot for SSDs, which could be a consideration for future-proofing.
