Performance That Delivers
Our testing reveals the Legion 5a Gen 11 offers superb and stable performance that will satisfy even demanding gamers. The combination of the 105W RTX 5060 laptop GPU and the 8-core Ryzen 7 250 APU creates a powerhouse capable of handling modern titles with ease.
Gaming Performance That Impresses
During our benchmark testing, the Legion 5 consistently delivered smooth frame rates across popular titles:
- Cyberpunk 2077: Comfortably above 60 FPS at highest settings (1080p/1440p)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Silky smooth gameplay with minimal stuttering
- Fortnite: Competitive frame rates ideal for esports enthusiasts
The generous 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 1TB of storage ensure you won't run out of memory or space anytime soon. And if you need more, the spare M.2 SSD slot and upgradeable RAM (expandable to 32GB) provide excellent future-proofing.
Display That Dazzles
The 15.3-inch 2,560 x 1,600p OLED panel is arguably the Legion 5a's most impressive feature at this price point.
Key display specifications:
- 500 nits of brightness for vibrant, punchy visuals
- 100% DCI-P3 coverage for accurate color reproduction
- 165Hz refresh rate for buttery-smooth motion
- OLED technology for perfect blacks and infinite contrast
The display is truly fantastic for both gaming and media consumption. Colors pop off the screen, and the fast refresh rate makes fast-paced action feel responsive and immersive.
The Display Tradeoffs
It's worth noting that the glossy finish can reduce visibility in brightly lit environments, and some users may notice PWM flickering at lower brightness levels. However, these minor drawbacks are easily outweighed by the display's exceptional quality.
Cooling and Fan Noise: The Tradeoff
The Legion 5a employs Lenovo's impressive cooling solution, featuring precision-engineered Falcon Fans, massive 3D copper heat pipes, and a hyperchamber that optimizes airflow. This system successfully prevents performance degradation during extended gaming sessions.
However, there's always a cost to effective cooling. Under heavy load, the fans can ramp up considerably. We noticed significant fan noise during intensive gaming sessions—enough that we strongly recommend investing in a quality gaming headset.

Connectivity and Future-Proofing
The Legion 5a comes equipped with:
- Wi-Fi 7 support for blazing-fast wireless connectivity
- A spare M.2 SSD slot for easy storage expansion
- Upgradeable DDR5 RAM (supports up to 32GB)
- Comprehensive port selection on the left, right, and back
The inclusion of Wi-Fi 7 is particularly noteworthy—it ensures your laptop will remain relevant as network technology continues to evolve.

- Students needing a capable machine for both work and play
- Content creators who appreciate accurate color reproduction
- Anyone looking for the best value gaming laptop of 2026
The Verdict
The Lenovo Legion 5a (Gen 11) is an easy recommendation for gamers seeking fast performance on a somewhat tight budget. While the fan noise can be noticeable under load, this is a small price to pay for the exceptional performance and stunning OLED display.
At this price—just $1,249 after the massive $850 discount—it's arguably the best gaming laptop deal of the year.
