Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist Hits North America — But There’s a Catch

 

The ThinkBook Plus G7 Auto Twist is now available in North America.

Lenovo has quietly widened the launch of one of its most unusual 14-inch laptops. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist — also known as the ThinkBook Plus G7 Auto Twist — is now on sale in North America, about a month after it arrived in Europe. It has already been available in China, but Lenovo has not yet brought the device to the rest of Asia or Oceania.

For now, the North American release comes with a few important caveats. In Europe, the laptop can be configured with up to a Core Ultra X7 358H, which includes Intel’s powerful Arc B390 iGPU. In North America, Lenovo currently limits the ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist to a Core Ultra 5 325. That chip has only one-third as many Xe3 iGPU cores as the Arc B390.

The performance gap is significant. According to benchmarks, the Arc B390 offers more than twice the GPU performance of Intel Graphics 4 Xe3 iGPU. The Core Ultra X7 358H also delivers over 30% higher CPU performance than the Core Ultra 5 325. In other words, buyers in Europe can get a noticeably faster version of the same eye-catching laptop.

Beyond the chip options, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist lands in North America with a 75 Wh battery and support for 100 W charging. At the time of publication, Lenovo claims this battery lasts more than 18 hours in MobileMark 30 at 250 nits, and over 21 hours in the JEITA-BAT 3.0 test at 200 nits.

The rest of the hardware is premium, too. You get 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7467 RAM, a 512 GB M.2 2242 SSD, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. The display is an 1800p OLED panel with a 30-120 Hz variable refresh rate, 500 nits peak brightness in SDR mode, and 1,100 nits peak brightness for HDR content.

As shown in the demo video, Lenovo pairs that display with a motorized rotating hinge. That party trick helps the Auto Twist stand out, but it also pushes the price up. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist retails for CAD 2,929 and $2,109. By comparison, the regular ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL we reviewed in July is much cheaper than its Auto Twist counterpart, currently $1,266 on Amazon.

Bottom line: Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist is finally easier to buy in North America, but the region’s limited chip options take some shine off the rotating-screen novelty. If you want the most powerful version, Europe still has the advantage. If you want a practical ThinkBook at a lower price, the standard ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL may be the smarter buy.
