BERLIN — AI, AI, AI. These days, it is hard to escape this topic, even if you want to. And it is especially hard to escape on a tech show like IFA 2026. In Berlin, AI is basically everywhere. If you were to take a shot every time AI is mentioned by one of the manufacturers exhibiting their new products here at Messe Berlin, you would end up needing medical attention before you finished walking the first hall.
The halls are buzzing with talk of NPUs, on-device agents, and generative capabilities. It is the defining narrative of the industry. Yet, amid the glowing screens and robotic demos, it seems that for one major tech company, the topic is maybe not as hot as it used to be—at least when it comes to marketing.
Do not get us wrong: Acer, the PC manufacturer that also introduced a new Nvidia Spark-powered mini PC which is pretty much tailor-made for AI tasks and AI agents, is of course not forgetting the topic. The technology is deeply integrated into their hardware and software stack. However, there has been a subtle, yet significant, shift in their branding strategy on the show floor.
It is noticeable that the new Acer Swift Air 16 and Acer Swift Blade 14, which Acer announced at IFA to much fanfare, both drop the "AI" moniker from their names.
The End of the Alphabet Soup?
Like AMD with their "Ryzen AI" product line and Intel with their "Core Ultra" push, Acer had embraced the topic fully in their naming conventions with the last generation. Just as recently as May 2026, we tested an "Acer Swift 16 AI" and found it to be a capable machine. But just a few months later, that naming strategy appears to be dead on arrival for the new flagships.
Seemingly, this confirms something that Dell declared earlier in the year: While AI continues to be a hot topic for engineers and developers, it does little for the average PC shopper. Simply putting "AI" into a name does not make it more appealing to consumers, and in some cases, it may even cause confusion or fatigue.

The decision to drop the suffix speaks volumes about the maturation of the market. In 2024 and 2025, slapping "AI" onto a chassis was a quick way to signal that the laptop was "next-gen." However, in 2026, AI is no longer a differentiator; it is a baseline expectation. You don't see Acer calling their laptops "Wi-Fi AI Laptops" or "Bluetooth AI Laptops" because connectivity is assumed.
The same thing is now happening with neural processing. The "AI PC" era is over, not because AI is gone, but because every PC is now an AI PC.
By removing the acronym from the product titles, Acer is signaling confidence that the raw performance of the hardware—the thermal design of the Swift Blade 14, the display quality of the Swift Air 16—is enough to sell the device on its own merits. They are banking on the idea that consumers are more interested in battery life, weight, and screen brightness than whether or not the lid has a sticker with a sparkle icon on it.
A Return to Sanity
This feels like a return to sanity for an industry that has been obsessed with riding the hype wave. At IFA 2026, the focus is shifting back to what matters: the physicality of the devices. The slimness of the chassis, the tactile feedback of the keyboards, and the actual watts being pushed to the GPU.
While the Nvidia Spark mini PC shows that Acer is still fully committed to building the backend infrastructure for local AI agents, the consumer-facing laptops are being stripped of the jargon. It seems Acer has realized that you catch more flies with a beautiful, fast laptop than you do with a confusing acronym.
If you want to see what happens when you stop talking about AI and start talking about user experience, the Swift Air 16 and Swift Blade 14 might just be the proof points the industry needs.
