| The Vaio T Kachi-iro Special Edition combines a distinctive finish with a flexible design that can be used in different positions |
Vaio has launched a striking special edition of its T series laptop in Japan, and it's turning heads for more than just its specs. The Kachi-iro Special Edition, which was initially teased earlier this month alongside the standard T series lineup, brings a unique aesthetic and serious performance to the table.
Under the Hood: Intel's Latest Processors
The Kachi-iro model gives buyers a choice between two powerful Intel chips: the Core Ultra X7 358H or the Core Ultra 7 356H. Both processors feature 16 cores, 16 threads, and a 25W power rating, along with an NPU capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS for AI-related tasks. The X7 358H tops out at 4.8GHz and uses Intel Arc B390 graphics, while the Core Ultra 7 356H reaches 4.7GHz with Intel Graphics.
In benchmark testing, the Core Ultra X7 358H generally came out ahead, though the margins were slim in some scenarios. It posted 4,164 points in Cinebench 2026 multi-core, beating the Core Ultra 7 356H's 3,769 points. In Cinebench R23 multi-core, the gap narrowed to 18,806 versus 18,586 points.
Design and Display
The laptop keeps the T series' signature 13.3-inch WQXGA touchscreen, offering a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Its multi-flip hinge mechanism lets you switch between laptop, tablet, and view modes, making it versatile for different workflows.

Memory, Storage, and That Special Keyboard
Vaio offers configurations with up to 64GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory and up to a 2TB fifth-generation PCIe 5.0 x4 SSD. Keep in mind that the RAM is soldered, so you'll want to choose your configuration carefully at purchase.
What really sets the Kachi-iro apart is its matching finish and an optional hidden-engraving keyboard. The black keycaps conceal the lettering until you turn on the backlight—a subtle but eye-catching detail. For those interested in exploring other Vaio options, the T series and T Work models offer similar multi-flip functionality.
Portability and Battery Life
Depending on how you configure it, the laptop weighs between 1.290kg and 1.368kg (2.84 to 3.02 lbs) and measures 312 x 224.6 x 14.6 to 19.6mm. With the optional high-capacity battery, Vaio rates it for up to 18 hours of video playback and up to 29 hours of idle use under the JEITA 3.0 measurement method.
The device also features a 9.2MP camera with an AI vision sensor and Windows Hello support. Vaio includes AI-based noise cancellation, and its WellnessCare feature is set to roll out from September 30.
