Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IPH11 review: Panther Lake holds back an otherwise great convertible

Rating: 8.2/10

Lenovo's Yoga 9i series has long been the gold standard for premium 2-in-1 convertibles, and the 2026 Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IPH11 (also known as the Yoga 9i Gen 11) continues that tradition with a stunning 120Hz OLED display, premium build quality, and thoughtful design improvements. But there's a catch that performance enthusiasts won't want to overlook.

The Panther Lake Problem

Let's address the elephant in the room right away: the Core Ultra 7 355 processor powering this machine is essentially a lateral move from last year's Lunar Lake chips. In fact, in some scenarios, it's actually slower than the Core Ultra 7 258V it replaces—particularly in graphics performance.

This is baffling. Intel's Panther Lake architecture promised significant gains, but Lenovo has chosen to equip the Yoga 9i with a low-power variant rather than the more capable Panther Lake-H or Panther Lake-X options. The result? Users upgrading from the 2025 model will see virtually no performance improvement, and in some cases, a regression.

In our Cinebench R23 multi-core testing, the Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IPH11 scored 11,456 points—barely edging out the previous generation's 11,023 points. Meanwhile, competitors like the HP OmniBook X Flip 14 with AMD's Ryzen AI 9 465 absolutely demolish it with 17,345 points. That's a 51% performance gap in favor of the HP.

Where the Yoga 9i Shines

Despite the performance disappointment, there's plenty to love about this convertible.

Display Excellence

The 14-inch 2880 x 1800 OLED touchscreen is genuinely spectacular. Yes, Lenovo downgraded the native resolution from last year's 4K panel, but the trade-off is worth it. The refresh rate has doubled to 120Hz, making everything from scrolling through documents to sketching with the included Yoga Pen feel buttery smooth.

With 508 nits in SDR mode and an impressive 1,059 nits in HDR, this display earns proper DisplayHDR1000 certification. Colors are vibrant and accurate, covering 99.8% of the DCI-P3 spectrum. The contrast ratio of 29,200:1 delivers those inky blacks OLED enthusiasts crave.

Response times are equally impressive at under 1ms for both grey-to-grey and black-to-white transitions, making this one of the fastest displays we've tested.

Premium Design That Turns Heads

The Yoga 9i's chassis remains one of the most attractive in the convertible space. At just 1.298 kg (2.86 pounds) and 15.29mm thin, it's incredibly portable without feeling flimsy. The speaker grilles integrated into the hinge and the magnetic stylus holder on the outer lid give it a distinctive, premium aesthetic that rivals machines costing significantly more.

The inclusion of HDMI this generation is a welcome addition for professionals who frequently connect to external displays in conference rooms. You're trading one USB-C port for the HDMI, but for many users, that's a worthwhile exchange.

Solid Connectivity and Battery Life

Wi-Fi 7 support via Intel's BE211 module delivers impressive speeds—we measured 4,022 Mbps transmit and 2,846 Mbps receive in our testing. Bluetooth 5.4 ensures compatibility with the latest peripherals.

The 70Wh battery delivered over 10 hours of real-world web browsing, which is respectable for an OLED-equipped convertible. It's not class-leading—the MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ achieves nearly 20 hours—but it's more than enough for a full workday.

Where Things Get Frustrating

The Stylus Holder Needs Work

The magnetic pen holder on the outer lid seems like a clever solution until you actually use it. The Yoga Pen Gen 2 falls off far too easily during transport or when the laptop is moved around. You certainly won't feel comfortable stacking books or papers on top of the closed laptop—a common scenario for students and professionals.

Limited Upgradeability

The single M.2 2242 SSD slot means you're restricted to smaller, less common drives if you want to upgrade storage down the line. Standard 2280 SSDs won't fit, which limits your options and potentially increases costs when upgrading.

Performance Stagnation

We've already covered the CPU situation, but it's worth emphasizing: if you're coming from the 2025 Yoga 9i or any recent high-performance ultrabook, you'll notice the lack of progress. The integrated Intel Graphics 4 Xe3 actually performs worse than the previous generation's graphics in some scenarios, which is genuinely disappointing.

For creative professionals working with video editing, 3D modeling, or even light gaming, the Yoga 9i's performance ceiling may become frustrating. The HP OmniBook X Flip 14 offers significantly more CPU headroom, while the MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ with Panther Lake-X delivers the performance this chassis deserves.

Who Should Buy the Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IPH11?

Buy it if:

  • You prioritize display quality above all else
  • You want a premium convertible for general productivity, web browsing, and media consumption
  • Portability and build quality matter more than raw performance
  • You appreciate the 120Hz refresh rate for smoother stylus input

Skip it if:

  • You need maximum CPU or GPU performance
  • You're upgrading from the 2025 model (there's little reason to)
  • You frequently work outdoors or in bright environments (the glossy OLED struggles here)
  • You need reliable stylus storage for mobile use

The Competition

The convertible market is more competitive than ever. The HP OmniBook X Flip 14 offers superior CPU performance and better port selection at a lower price point. The MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ delivers exceptional battery life and Panther Lake-X performance, though its dim display is a significant compromise.

The Yoga 9i carves out its niche through display quality and design polish, but the performance deficit is hard to ignore at this price point.

Pricing and Availability

The Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IPH11 starts at $1,850 for the configuration we tested (Core Ultra 7 355, 32GB RAM, 2880x1800 120Hz OLED). That's premium pricing for a machine that doesn't deliver premium performance.

Final Verdict

The Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IPH11 is a beautiful machine that's held back by Intel's disappointing Panther Lake implementation. If Lenovo had equipped it with the higher-tier Panther Lake-H or X variants, this could have been the convertible of the year. Instead, it's a solid choice for users who prioritize display quality and design over performance—but power users should look elsewhere.

Pros:

  • Stunning 120Hz OLED display with DisplayHDR1000
  • Premium, lightweight build quality
  • Integrated HDMI port
  • Fast Wi-Fi 7 connectivity
  • Good battery life for an OLED laptop

Cons:

  • Performance nearly identical to (or worse than) last year's model
  • Stylus falls off magnetic holder too easily
  • Limited to M.2 2242 SSDs
  • Expensive for the performance on offer
  • No high-performance Panther Lake options
