| The Xiaomi Redmi Book 16 2026. |
Xiaomi is quietly prepping its next mainstream laptop, and early benchmark leaks suggest the company is shaking things up under the hood. The Redmi Book 16 2027 has surfaced in Geekbench listings, and the headline is a shift from the Panther Lake platform used in this year's Redmi Book Pro 16 to Intel's new Wildcat Lake architecture.
If you want to dig through the raw benchmark data yourself, you can search the Geekbench database for Redmi Book 2027 entries — though at the time of writing, the listings are still thin on the ground.
What the Leaks Tell Us
According to reporting from IT之家 (which you can read in full here), Xiaomi's test units are running the Intel Core 5 320 — a 6-core Wildcat Lake chip — paired with 16GB of DDR5-4800 memory. That's a notable detail, because it suggests the Redmi Book 16 2027 will offer upgradeable RAM, unlike its Panther Lake-based sibling.
For context, the Redmi Book Pro 16 2026 that launched earlier this year packed Intel's Panther Lake platform, up to a Core Ultra X7 358H with Arc B390 integrated graphics. We covered that launch in detail over at LaptopsCheck's Panther Lake Redmi Book Pro breakdown, and it was a genuinely impressive machine — high-refresh display, massive battery, and a price that undercut Apple by a wide margin.
The 2027 model, by contrast, looks like it's targeting a more budget-conscious buyer.
The Core 5 320: Efficiency Over Brute Force
The Core 5 320 isn't a powerhouse, and Xiaomi knows it. This is the same chip we saw in Dell's cheapest XPS 13 — the Wildcat Lake XPS 13 that redefined the budget Windows category. If you want to pick one up, it's currently available on Amazon for around $839.
In our testing, the Core 5 320 delivered solid single-core performance and excellent power efficiency, but its multi-core scores lagged behind older H-series chips. Notebookcheck's own benchmarks suggest the Redmi Book 16 2027 will run more efficiently than its Core Ultra 5 125H-based predecessor, though multi-core performance will take a hit.
For a 16-inch laptop aimed at students and office workers, that's probably a trade worth making. Efficiency means longer battery life, and the Redmi Book 16 2026's 80Wh battery with 100W charging was already a strong selling point.
What Else to Expect
Xiaomi hasn't started teasing the Redmi Book 16 2027 yet, so the spec sheet beyond the CPU and RAM is still a mystery. But we can make some educated guesses based on the 2026 model.
The Redmi Book 16 2026 shipped with a 1600p IPS display, 400 nits of brightness, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It's reasonable to expect Xiaomi to carry over that panel — or perhaps bump the brightness slightly — while keeping the same chassis design. The 80Wh battery and 100W charging are also likely to return.
What we don't know is whether Xiaomi will stick with DDR5 or move to LPDDR5x. The Geekbench listing points to DDR5, which is good news for anyone who likes the idea of upgradeable memory. Soldered RAM has become the norm in thin-and-light laptops, so seeing a manufacturer buck that trend is refreshing.
The Bigger Picture
Xiaomi's laptop strategy has been interesting to watch. The company launched the Redmi Book Pro 2026 series in China earlier this year with aggressive pricing — starting at around CNY 7,499 (roughly $1,099) for the 14-inch model and CNY 7,699 (about $1,129) for the 16-inch version. Those machines were positioned as MacBook Pro alternatives, and by most accounts, they delivered.
The Redmi Book 16 2027 looks like a different play entirely. Wildcat Lake is a more modest platform, and the Core 5 320 is a mid-range chip. This is a laptop for people who want a big screen, a comfortable keyboard, and all-day battery life without paying for performance they don't need.
Whether Xiaomi can pull that off at a compelling price remains to be seen. The company hasn't announced a launch date or pricing, and it hasn't even started teasing the product on its social channels. But given how quickly the Geekbench listings have surfaced, an official reveal probably isn't far off.
Should You Wait?
If you're in the market for a 16-inch laptop and you don't need discrete-level graphics performance, the Redmi Book 16 2027 is worth keeping an eye on. Wildcat Lake's efficiency gains are real, and Xiaomi's track record on build quality and display quality is solid.
That said, if you need more grunt for video editing or gaming, the Panther Lake-based Redmi Book Pro 16 2026 is still the better choice — and it's already available.
We'll update this story as soon as Xiaomi makes the Redmi Book 16 2027 official. In the meantime, keep an eye on those Geekbench listings.
