| The ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 is available in the US starting at $4,109 |
Lenovo has officially launched the ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 in the US, succeeding the Gen 8 model we reviewed earlier this year. While the laptop brings significant hardware upgrades, pricing remains the primary hurdle, with the base model starting at a steep $6,699 before discounts. For those who remember our review of the ThinkPad T1g Gen 8, you’ll know we called it a worthy successor to the ThinkPad X1 Extreme, and this new iteration aims to build on that legacy with cutting-edge internals.
The new model features Intel Panther Lake processors and offers a choice between the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB of VRAM and an RTX 5060 variant. The ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 was first announced back in March, and since then, Lenovo has rolled it out across Australia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe. US buyers can now purchase the ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 directly from Lenovo, with a 38% early discount currently applied to both configurations.
The Gen 9 model has a similar design to its predecessor.

The base model pairs the processor with an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8GB of VRAM, 64GB of LPCAMM2-8533 memory, and a 2TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD. Users also get an IPS display with a 3840 x 2400 resolution, 800 nits of peak brightness, and a 60Hz refresh rate. The upgraded configuration swaps in an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB of VRAM and a much brighter tandem OLED touchscreen. Specifically, the display reaches up to 1,500 nits and supports a 40–120Hz variable refresh rate.
The newer Intel processors and RTX 5070 GPU, with double the VRAM (16GB vs. 8GB), should give the Gen 9 a substantial performance advantage over its predecessor. However, we will have to test it to see just how substantial the improvement is under real-world workloads. Other highlights include a 5MP webcam with a privacy shutter, a backlit keyboard with a fingerprint reader, and Wi-Fi 7 support. It also offers a wide selection of ports, including Thunderbolt 5, HDMI 2.1, and 10Gbps USB-A.
The ThinkPad T1g Gen 9 is currently available in the US for $4,109** with RTX 5060 graphics, while the RTX 5070 configuration costs **$4,469 following the 38% discount. While these prices are still premium, the early discount makes the upgrade to the top-tier model significantly more attractive for professionals needing top-tier performance.
