| Dynabook's latest V-series laptop packs Intel Panther Lake prowess in a lightweight chassis with solid I/O. |
Dynabook's new 13.3-inch business convertible is a featherweight workhorse with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips, a pen garage, and enough ports to leave the dongle at home.
Dynabook may not be a household name in every market, but the Sharp-owned Japanese brand has quietly built a reputation for no-nonsense business laptops. Its latest release, the V83/PA, is a 360-degree convertible that weighs just 989 grams (about 2.18 lbs) and targets professionals who spend as much time in the field as they do at a desk.
The company announced the machine in Japan this week, and the spec sheet reads like a checklist of things business buyers actually ask for — lightweight chassis, long battery life, optional cellular, and a healthy spread of legacy ports.
Lightweight, but not flimsy
At under a kilogram, the V83/PA is among the lighter 13.3-inch convertibles around. Dynabook says the figure applies to models without the wireless WAN module, and notes it's an average value that may vary slightly by configuration.
The chassis is built around a dual-axis synchronous hinge that rotates a full 360 degrees and can lay the screen completely flat at 180 degrees — handy for face-to-face meetings where you want to share what's on screen without turning the whole laptop around. Dynabook says the hinge mounting has been validated through durability simulation, and the machine is slated for MIL-STD-810G-based drop testing across 26 directions, including every face, edge, and corner. As always with MIL claims, that's not a guarantee against damage, but it's a reasonable indicator of build quality.
One of the more practical touches is a built-in pen garage that both stores and charges the included stylus, so you're not hunting for a loose pen in your bag.
Intel Core Ultra Series 3 inside
Under the hood, the V83/PA runs Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 processors — the chips built on the Intel 18A process with Xe3 graphics and a fifth-generation NPU rated at roughly 49 TOPS. That's enough to meet Microsoft's Copilot+ PC requirements, which means on-device AI features run locally rather than being punted to the cloud.
Dynabook's Japanese product page lists several CPU options, with the top configuration reportedly being an 8-core Core Ultra 7 365. Lower-tier SKUs are also available. All variants can be configured with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X-7467 memory and up to 1TB of SSD storage — a combination that should keep the machine comfortable for years of multitasking.
The 13.3-inch display uses a 1920 x 1200 panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which gives you a bit more vertical room for documents and spreadsheets. It's a touchscreen with pen support and a non-glare, wide-viewing-angle finish. Dynabook hasn't published detailed color coverage figures yet, so creative professionals should wait for independent testing.
Dynabook has also baked in a set of its own local AI tools, including an assistant that handles translation and document summarization without sending data to the cloud, a "circle to act" pen feature for triggering AI actions on selected content, and an AI privacy assistant that warns you when someone is peeking over your shoulder.

Ports, connectivity, and 5G
Connectivity is where the V83/PA pulls ahead of most thin-and-light rivals:
- 2x Thunderbolt 4 (USB4 Type-C), one on each side, either of which can accept power
- 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, also split left and right
- HDMI output
- 1GbE RJ-45 Ethernet
- microSD card slot
- 3.5mm audio jack
- Nano SIM slot on cellular models
- Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4
- Optional 5G or LTE wireless WAN with nano-SIM and eSIM support
Having full-size Ethernet and USB-A on a sub-1kg convertible is genuinely uncommon, and the dual-sided port layout means left- and right-handed users can both charge comfortably. If you need more expansion, a Thunderbolt dock like this Ugreen 8-in-1 model is a sensible pairing for a desk setup.
The 5G option is worth highlighting. The V83/PA is a SIM-free device intended for the Japanese market, so buyers elsewhere will need to check carrier compatibility, but the addition of eSIM support makes international travel considerably less painful.
Battery, security, and the rest
Dynabook claims up to 16 hours of video playback and around 28.5 hours of standby from the internal battery. There's also a "quick 30-minute charge" mode that tops up roughly 40% of the battery in half an hour, plus selectable charge limits (Auto, 80%, 70%) to slow long-term battery degradation.
Security is clearly aimed at corporate IT departments. The V83/PA is a Secured-core PC and complies with NIST SP 800-147/155/193 guidelines for BIOS and firmware protection. Buyers can spec an infrared facial recognition camera with a physical shutter, or a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button.
Audio comes courtesy of stereo speakers, and the webcam is a 5MP unit on higher configurations.
Pricing and availability
Dynabook has launched the V83/PA in Japan, with pricing expected to follow shortly. The full specifications and configuration options are available on Dynabook's official V83/PA product page.
The brand also maintains a presence in international markets including the United States, so a broader launch seems plausible — though Dynabook hasn't confirmed a timeframe. Japanese tech outlet ITHome notes that the company simultaneously announced the G83R/RA, a non-convertible 13.3-inch business laptop weighing just 845g and running Intel's "Wildcat Lake" processors.
The bottom line
The Dynabook V83/PA isn't trying to win a benchmark war. What it offers is a sub-1kg convertible with a genuinely useful port selection, optional 5G, a pen that charges in the chassis, and enterprise-grade security — a combination that's harder to find than it should be. For field engineers, sales teams, and anyone who spends their day moving between desks, sites, and client offices, that's a compelling pitch. We'll reserve final judgment until review units and pricing are available.
