| The MSI Stealth 16 now comes in an RTX 5070 12GB variant. |
MSI has quietly updated its Stealth 16 gaming laptop with a new GPU choice, and it’s a move that says a lot about where the high-end laptop market is right now. The 16-inch machine first made its debut at CES 2026 in January, where MSI promised a premium blend of a 240Hz OLED display, up to a GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU, 128GB of RAM, and a Core Ultra 9 386H processor. At the time, it looked like a direct answer to the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16.
So far, though, only part of that dream configuration has become a reality. The Core Ultra 9 386H does appear across all configurations, but the GeForce RTX 5090 and 128GB RAM options have yet to materialise. Instead, MSI is now selling Stealth 16 models with a GeForce RTX 5070 and 12GB of VRAM.
RTX 5070 12GB fills the gap — for now
Announced back in April, the RTX 5070 12GB uses the same 4,608 CUDA cores and 128-bit memory bus as the 8GB version. The big difference is obvious: more video memory. That extra 4GB may not sound huge on paper, but it can help in higher-quality presets and higher-resolution gaming, especially in modern titles that are increasingly hungry for VRAM. For anyone comparing the Stealth 16 to its main rival, this breakdown of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 and MSI Stealth 16 is worth a read.
In the US, the new RTX 5070 12GB variant is currently priced at $2,299, down from its $2,599 MSRP. The more powerful RTX 5070 Ti variant is listed at $3,099 on Amazon US, which was the cheapest retailer with stock at the time of writing. That makes the 12GB RTX 5070 a noticeably more affordable way into MSI’s latest Stealth 16 lineup, even if it isn’t the flagship GPU some shoppers were hoping for.
UK and Eurozone pricing get messy
UK buyers can pick up the RTX 5070 12GB model for £2,399, undercutting the RTX 5070 Ti across the board. You can see the current configuration on this Currys listing. For US shoppers who prefer buying in person or through a major retailer, Micro Center’s product page shows the charcoal-black Copilot+ PC OLED model.
The Eurozone is where things get a little strange. MSI sells its new RTX 5070 12GB SKU for €3,399, which is €100 more than the more powerful RTX 5070 Ti. That’s not a typo. Regional pricing can swing hard, and this is a clear example of why it pays to compare before clicking buy. The MSI French store lists the Stealth 16 AI B3WGX configuration, but buyers in Europe may want to check multiple retailers before committing.
Performance: RTX 5070 Ti is faster, but 12GB helps close the gap
According to benchmarks, the RTX 5070 Ti delivers over 40% higher FPS than the standard RTX 5070. That’s a significant lead, and it explains why the Ti model costs more in most regions. However, the 12GB RTX 5070 has been shown to close that gap in many modern games, particularly when texture quality and resolution are pushed higher. It won’t match the Ti in raw speed, but the extra VRAM can make the 12GB version feel more consistent in games that would otherwise run into memory limits.
For more details, MSI’s website and the video above are worth checking out. The Stealth 16 remains a sleek, OLED-equipped gaming laptop with a strong CPU and a premium design, but the promised RTX 5090 and 128GB RAM configurations are still missing in action. Until those arrive, the RTX 5070 12GB model looks like the practical middle ground — especially if you want more VRAM without paying RTX 5070 Ti money.
