| Acemagic has launched a new Panther Lake laptop |
Acemagic has quietly updated its RX16 laptop, and while the outside may look familiar, the internals have taken a serious step forward. The 16-inch model now runs on an up-to-date Intel processor, replacing the older AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX that powered the previous version. That older chip paired eight Zen 3+ cores with Radeon 680M integrated graphics, and while it was respectable in its day, it was beginning to feel dated. The new Intel Core Ultra X7 358H gives the RX16 a much more modern foundation.
At the heart of the update is Intel’s Core Ultra X7 358H, a 16-core Panther Lake chip. It combines four performance cores, eight efficiency cores, and four low-power efficiency cores. It can boost up to 4.8 GHz and includes a 50 TOPS NPU. Graphics come courtesy of Intel’s Arc B390 integrated GPU, which features 12 Xe3 cores clocked at up to 2.5 GHz. Intel rates the GPU for up to 122 TOPS of INT8 compute, and it supports hardware ray tracing, DirectX 12 Ultimate, and AV1 encoding and decoding. For a thin-and-light 16-inch laptop, that is a notable step up—especially if you enjoy occasional gaming.
For anyone who wants to check out the exact model, the Acemagic RX16 with Intel Core Ultra X7 358H is already listed on Acemagic’s website. The current configuration pairs the new chip with 24 GB of LPDDR5-7467 memory and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. One important caveat: the memory is soldered, so it cannot be upgraded later. Storage is more accommodating. There are two M.2 2280 slots, supporting up to 4 TB in total, and one of those slots can accept a PCIe Gen5 NVMe drive.
Cooling has also been addressed. Acemagic uses two fans and a vapour-chamber heat spreader, which the company says allows for up to 65 W of sustained performance. That should help the Core Ultra X7 358H stretch its legs without throttling too aggressively during longer workloads.
Connectivity is generous for the price. You get Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, USB 4, another full-function USB-C port, HDMI 2.1, two USB 3.2 ports, a USB 2.0 port, a microSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The display, however, remains unchanged from the previous RX16. It is a 16-inch, 16:10 panel with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The 180-degree hinge also carries over, which is handy for sharing content or using the laptop in unusual positions.
Pricing is set at $1,159 for the 24 GB / 1 TB configuration. At the moment, that appears to be the only version available. According to Acemagic, orders will ship in 3–5 days, at least on the US website.
Overall, the RX16’s refresh is not a dramatic redesign, but it does make the laptop far more interesting. The Panther Lake CPU and Arc B390 graphics give it enough muscle for everyday productivity and light gaming, while the connectivity and storage options keep it practical. The 60 Hz screen may hold it back for serious gamers, but for users who want a large-screen laptop that can handle work and casual play, the updated Acemagic RX16 is worth a closer look.
